Joanna Young

Joanna Young MSt (Cantab) MBA, Cert Ed, ICF.

Joanna is an experienced senior leader with a positive sense of purpose and values, and a passion for personal development.

Although the majority of her police service was with the Metropolitan Police, she also served in Kent Police and Nationally and completed a variety of roles including; uniform patrol, custody, complaints investigation, training, public order and firearms command, Government Affairs, BCU command and pan London Criminal Justice delivery. In 2011 Joanna was elected by her peers as the full time Secretary to the Superintendents’ Association in London. In this role she had the privilege of representing her colleagues nationally and influencing decision making locally and nationally.

Throughout her police career she has been a strong advocate of diversity and valuing difference. She was an active member of ASWO in the Met and in Kent Police she was the Chair of the LGBT Action Group and the Kent Network of Women. Her MBA dissertation examined the effects of gender on career progression and her MSt researched leadership styles and traits and their relationship with assessments of performance. She has presented at international conferences on both and continues to champion diversity and inclusion.

Having left the MPS in 2015, Joanna has kept close ties with policing as an associate of the College of Policing and as a lecturer at Canterbury Christ Church University on their policing degree programme.

Her new career is working with individuals and organisations to help them go further through leadership development, team building, personal resilience and well being workshops and one to one coaching.

She is married with three children, is a keen skier and badminton player, enjoys keep fit and travel.
