Jackie Alexander

Detective Superintendent Jackie Alexander has 30 years of experience in the police
Service and is an East Midlands Rep for BAWP. Jackie joined Nottinghamshire Police as
a graduate in 1989 and gained an MA in Police and Organisational Management from
the University of Manchester in 1994. Whilst researching the impact of gender on the
lateral and vertical career opportunities of male and female officers as part of her
thesis, Jackie first became involved with BAWP.

Jackie’s postings in the force have included both uniform and CID, as well as working
in areas of HR, Quality Assurance, and Regional Collaboration. When promoted to
Detective Superintendent in 2003, Jackie spent six years heading up Public Protection
for Nottinghamshire Police, followed by a role as a Deputy Divisional Commander
where she enjoyed the challenge of being responsible for the operational performance
of a large policing area.

For the next six years Jackie headed up the Nottinghamshire Police Professional
Standards Directorate, leading the force’s Complaints and Misconduct, Anti-Corruption
and Vetting and Information Security Units. During this period, Jackie was involved
nationally in work around identifying and tackling the issue of abuse of authority for
the purposes of sexual exploitation.

Currently seconded to the College of Policing, Jackie now works closely with policing
partners such as the Home Office and leads work nationally around police integrity
and ethics. Jackie is now studying for a Professional Doctorate with the University of
Portsmouth, with a focus on gender in career progression and leadership in policing.
Jackie is a founding member of her own force’s women’s network – Nottinghamshire
Encouraging Women to Succeed (NEWS).

In her private life, Jackie is married and has two sons.
